Carswell Improving; Woman Cited In Five Car Crash

Aurora (AP) A 22–year–old woman accused of making an abrupt lane change is being blamed for a five–car crash that critically injured Denver Broncos player Dwayne Carswell. Authorities cited Marquita Brister for careless driving, alleging she cut–off a Volvo during rush–hour traffic while driving her Grand Am north on an Aurora roadway early Thursday.

Both cars crossed a raised median and slammed into three
southbound vehicles, one of which Carswell was driving on his way to Broncos headquarters. The force of the crash ripped off Carswell's driver's side door, and left him with multiple rib fractures, a ruptured diaphragm, ruptured spleen and internal injuries.

Carswell underwent emergency surgery Thursday, and his condition has been upgraded to "serious."
