A business that has been in Grand Junction for more than ten years announced Thursday it will be moving out of Mesa County. 3D Systems, a leading technical manufacturer, will be consolidating its offices to another location in South Carolina. Officials are saying it's in an effort to save money and move closer to its customers.
The Grand Junction location at 805 Falcon Way is also primarily involved in manufacturing and 3D Systems has begun to outsource that part of its business. The company's Director of Corporate Development Elizabeth Goode says that many of the Grand Junction employees will relocate to the new facility.
No word at this point on exactly how many will leave the area or if any will lose their jobs altogether. 3D Systems expects to have the move completed by September of next year.
The news comes about a year after another large business in the Grand Valley, Hamilton Sundstrand, announced it was shutting down its Grand Junction office affecting about 200 jobs.
