Sky West Airlines has plans to reduce the number of daily flights between Salt Lake City and Grand Junction, but despite the announcement, Walker Filed Airport Spokesperson Charlie Novinski says it's a positive change for the Grand Valley.
According to Novinski, Sky West which operates Delta connection flights will end all eight daily flights on 30–seat turboprop aircraft and replace them with three daily flights on 50–seat regional jets by January fourth. Novinski says the airport has been waiting for this and is fully equipped to handle the new regional jets.
There will be a loss of 60 seats per day between Grand Junction and Salt Lake City as a result of Sky West's decision to reduce flights, but now jet service will be available direct from Walker Field Airport to Salt Lake City.
The service is already available to Denver and Phoenix.
