Grand Junction residents have opened their hearts, homes, and pocketbooks to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Now charities in the Grand Valley like the Salvation Army are worried the generosity means less money for local charities during the holiday season. This time of year is key for fundraising in Mesa County. The Salvation Army hosts a variety of different fundraisers including the Red Kettle Campaign, a Thanksgiving dinner, and The Miracle Tree. Due to the overwhelming response for hurricane relief charities fear some of our less fortunate neighbors will have to go without this holiday season. The Salvation Army here in Grand Junction collected $120,000 for Hurricane Katrina victims and officials say that if they had that amount of donations now in Mesa County they would have more than enough to make it through the holiday season.
