The controversial new facility for Coloroado West Regional Mental Health Center is just about ready to open its doors.
Construction of the new campus in Grand Junction has been controversial as neighbors, including the Grand Mesa Little League have voiced concerns about having the facility so close to children, but after months of struggling with appeals and petitions the hospital is gearing up for its opening day, December 1st.
Friday afternoon supporters of the hospital, patients and workers all joined in for a ribbon cutting and toured the hospital.
The new center is located on 28 3/4 Road off of North Avenue will include three separate patient buildings and a two–story adminstration and outpatient facility. Although this project at one point was challenging supporters say it was all worth it in the end.
Colorado West Regional Mental Health Center is also backed by St. Mary's Hospital, Hilltop, the Southwestern Mental Health Center, Mesa County and Montrose Memorial Hospital.
