House Fire Causes Damage, Forces Evacuation

Just after 3:00 p.m. Sunday the Grand Junction Fire Department received a call that smoke was coming from the crawl space under the home at 1615 N. 20th Street. Firefighters were able to reach the fire through an outdoor access door and by cutting a hole in the kitchen floor with a special chain saw. Firefighters say a fire alarm is responsible for alerting the one occupant home at the time. The woman escaped unharmed. They also say the fire alarm helped save the home from suffering a lot of damage. The total loss is estimated at 12–thousand dollars.
