A group of Delta County residents are trying to recall a commissioner they say is trying to push building codes into the largely rural area. The group is trying to recall first–term commissioner Jan McCracken. Proponents of the recall say they believe building codes would force landowners to pay for permission to build on their own property.
Recall proponents are also upset over a change in the numbering system for rural addresses they say McCracken spearheaded that caused confusion for many residents. McCracken says dirty politics is driving the recall based on issues she had nothing to do with.
Rcall petitions are due by December 12th. More than 2,700 valid signatures are required to initiate the recall, which could happen as early as January.
A recall would cost $6-10,000. County administrators say that could be money wasted as McCracken would be up for re–election next fall.
