Think Twice Before Getting Holiday Pet

If your child wants a pet for Christmas, Mesa County animal experts say there are several things to consider before making that decision.
Along with games, toys and electronics, a new dog or cat is near the top of many children's wish–lists. Director of Mesa
County Animal Services Penny McCarty says children need to understand that pet ownership comes with responsibility and is a life–long commitment. Experts add with the commotion surrounding the holidays, it might not be the best time to get a pet and parents must be prepared to oversee the care for the animal.
Experts also suggest buying pet supplies before getting the animal, picking out the pet as a family and never buy an animal on a wim.
