A deadly crash trapped as many as 10,000 people in Grand Lake late Thursday night into Friday morning.

Hordes of visitors had descended upon the small mountain town to view the community's popular Fourth of July fireworks show. The crash happened just after the show ended.

According to sister station KCNC, a truck hit five pedestrians and killed one, shutting down Highway 34 for hours. Grand Lake is nestled against the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park, and there are few options besides the highway for getting in and out of town.

The 33-year-old driver of the truck has been taken into custody. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

At this time, few other details have been released, including the conditions of the surviving pedestrians. We will provide updates as they become available.
