Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – One section of the Grand Junction Regional Airport plays host during the wildfire season to some of the bravest wildfire fighters around: the smoke jumpers. They're dropped into a wildfire through the air and when a call comes in, they only have two minutes to gear up and jump on the plane.
The current group of smoke jumpers based in Grand Junction are from Boise, Idaho. There can be up to eight crew members jump out of one plane when attacking a wildfire.
