Matt Smith Announces His Candidacy for State Senate

Republican Matt Smith formally announced his candidacy today in Grand Junction. His brother–in–law and former U.S. representative Scott Mcinnis introduced Matt Smith as the obvious and seasoned choice to replace term limited Ron Teck. Matt Smith represented house district 54 for eight years and says he's ready to take his experience to the senate. Smith says his campaign will focus on water.. transportation and energy issues.

Republican state representative Josh Penry who replaced Matt Smith when he was term limited in 2004 is also running for the senate seat.
Senate district 7 covers all of Mesa County and the west end of Garfield county including Battlement Mesa and Parachute.
