Grand Junction's Walker Field Airport had the most passenger traffic in 18 years, according to information released by authorities today.
A full parking lot at the Western Slope's largest regional airport is one sign of how busy the facility is, as 2005 commercial emplanements were up 11 per cent last year from 2004.Just more than 50 per cent of the market is shared between United Express and Great Lakes Aviation on flights to Denver.
Nearly 30 percent of the flights are to Salt Lake City on Sky West/Delta,
and another 20 per cent list America West flights to Phoenix as a destination.
Airport manager Rex Tippetts says flight numbers were up all year, and are due to better availabilty and cost of flights from Walker field, as well as a strong Grand Valley economy. Tippetts says there is every reason to expect another increase in emplanements this year.
