Metal Kites Soar Over Canyon View Park

Giant kites are now flying over Canyon View Park, the newest installation from the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture.

The 33–foot–tall sculpture is made of steel and aluminum. Although the three brightly–colored kites are idle today they move much as real kites do when the wind blows.

Each of the three kites are 8 feet tall, and artist J. Gunnar Anderson spent hours picking the colors that would best stand out from the blue skies of the western slope.

He says he chose the theme because everyone from child to adult can relate to the excitement of seeing kites floating on the wind.

The sculpture is located next to the dog park adjacent to Interstate 70.
The city paid only 25–thousand dollars for the Durango artists' work.
