Representative John Salazar and Senator Ken Salazar have asked the Bureau of Land Management to postpone the auction of land for proposed drilling. Some of the parcels that energy companies would be allowed to bid on during the February 9th auction are owned by Grand Junction and are located within the city's watershed. The city filed a letter of protest to the BLM earlier this week and called on federal lawmakers to take action so the city could have more time to explore the impact of drilling on the city's water supply. So far city officials are pleased with the response from lawmakers. In a letter to the BLM Senator Ken Salazar said America's energy problem did not come about overnight and neither rushing to lease these parcels, nor disregarding the concerns of local communities would be a prudent path toward solving the nation's energy problems.
