Two Narrowly Escape House Fire

Two members of a Grand Junction family narrowly avoid being trapped in their burning house last night.

A16–year–old was awake when the fire broke out in a bedroom where his mother was sleeping. He alerted the five family members and two friends spending the night to the fire, including his father who was asleep on a couch.

His wife sleeping in the burning bedroom has breathing problems and needed help in getting out.

Mike Page with the Grand Junction Fire Department says, “The husband had to go into the bedroom to get his wife, and they both had to get through flames to get out. It was lucky there were no injuries.”

It took firefighters just over ten minutes to control the fire, but the house had fire damage upstairs and water damage on the first floor, making the home inhabitable. The Red Cross assisted the family in finding temporary housing.

Damages are estimated at $100,000. Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
