Overpopulation of animals, this is becoming a major problem for shelters on the western slope. The weather could be to blame for the overcrowding. Currently Mesa County Animal Services is at full capacity and the no clear facility, Roice Hurst Humane Society, is also at capacity. But in situations like this the Grand River Humane helps out the organizations by taking a few of the animals, but there not the only ones. Next week agencies from across the Western Slope are meeting together for the first time to find a way to pool all the resources. Certain animals are more popular in certain areas. For instance Labrador retrievers are very popular animals in Carbondale, but they don?t really get adopted much here. The shelters are going to start trading animals to get them into loving homes.
