The Chief Deputy Coroner in Mesa County is hoping to move up and become the head honcho next year. Forensic pathologist Dr. Dean Havlik says he plans on seeking the position of Mesa County Coroner in the 2006 election. Term limits prevent current Coroner Rob Kutzman from seeking a third term in office. Havlik has served under Kurtzman as the Chief Deputy Coroner for the past four and a half years. Havlik, a registered Democrat, is one of only four hundred board certified forensic pathologists practicing in the United States. His job focuses mainly on investigating sudden or unexpected deaths. Dr. Havlik plans to formally announce his candidacy sometime in the next couple of weeks.
