The area under the Fifth Street Bridge is now again a respectable area of town, thanks to some special attention from one Grand Junction Police Officer.

Officer Dean Cork says his "Pop" Project is just one of the many projects headed up by officers within the department.

Cork says during his patrols, he noticed the mess left behind by a homeless camp, and decided to make the area's problem his own.

Saturday morning, Cork and seventeen members of the Alternative Sentencing Unit cleaned up the trash, old furniture, dirty bedding and pillows, even syringes and drug paraphernalia.

The group worked for more than four hours and filled up about four dumpsters with bags of trash.

Cork says being a member of the Force goes beyond fighting crime, to improving the City, overall.
