Colorado's Roadless Areas

Friday afternoon the thirteen member panel appointed by Legislators and Governor Owens met to discuss what to do with Colorado's roadless areas.

About 4.4 million acres of National Forest land in Colorado were placed off limits to develop under the Clinton Administration. The Bush Administration overturned the ruling, unless the governors petition otherwise.

Some hunters and anglers in Colorado have joined with environmentalism to ask that roadless areas remain the same. While off road vehicle users are arguing that public access should not be restricted.

More meetings are planned across the state before the task force submits its recommendations to Governor Owens.
