A Grand Junction woman is dead and her passenger seriously injured after the car they're riding in crashes going at least 100 miles per hour. The crash happened just before midnight on I–70 near milepost 23. According to the Colorado State Patrol, a black Ford Mustang convertible was traveling eastbound when it drifted off the shoulder. The driver then over corrected causing the car to smash through the guardrail and roll one time. The crash was so severe it completely destroyed a 62 foot section of guardrail. The driver, 34–year–old Molly Gomez of Grand Junction and the passenger, 24–year–old Jade Brandon Huskey of Fruita were both ejected and transported to St. Mary's Hospital with critical injuries. Gomez later died as a result of her injuries and Huskey remains in the hospital in serious condition.
Investigators believe neither was wearing a seat belt. Tests are underway to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
