Ice skating in Grand Junction is just months away as progress continues to be made on the Glacier Ice Arena. The concrete has been poured, the steel beams have been raised, and construction crews are currently installing the walls. This time of year especially following the Olympics skating becomes extremely popular and although the rink was scheduled to be open next month, cold weather at the start of the building phase delayed the project and now the rink is expected to be completed by May 19th and ready for skaters in early June. The Glacier Ice Arena has been nearly 10 years in the making. The idea originated with the non–profit group Ice Skating Incorporated, but last year when the dream of building a rink appeared to be out of financial reach, a private for–profit group came forward to take the reins on the project.
