Health Department Holds Flu Preparation Seminar

A session detailing threats and responses to a possible worldwide outbreak of flu draws more than one hundred people to Two Rivers Convention Center in Grand Junction today.

Although avian flu and other serious viruses have yet to reach North America, the threat of a virus with a 50 per cent fatality rate arriving here is real. Experts say such an outbreak could take a toll on all levels of government and business as well as taxing health care in the United States.

Today's meeting drew representatives from a variety of areas to get an update on worldwide flu outbreaks and the efforts at state, federal and local levels to be prepared for an outbreak.

The sessions today also stress what families and individuals can do to prevent getting and spreading flu.
