For seven years, a Grand Valley couple has been trying to build a car wash facility in the Redlands and on Tuesday, the Grand Junction Planning Commission finally granted the conditional use permit by unanimous vote.
During the seven-year period, the couple says they have fixed planning problems that have come up, including making the structure blend into its neighborhood surroundings and adhering to signage regulations.
Opponents of the project argue the proposed Canyon View Car Wash would increase traffic on a quiet side street, jeopardizing the safety of children and adults alike.
The applicants say they have had a number of traffic studies done on the site on the corner of the Redlands Parkway and Highway 340, which indicate traffic would not be an issue.
With the project now underway, the applicants say the $1M car wash should be complete by the end of this year.
