With gasoline prices soaring toward $3 per gallon some state lawmakers are looking at dropping gasoline taxes.
A bill sponsored by Colorado Springs representative Mark Cloer would ask voters to allow the Joint Budget Committee to lower gas taxes by up to 24 cents for 90 days if it could help the state's economy, but others in the legislature fear that a gas tax reduction would hurt the state's contractors, possibly putting some out of business.
The bill requires voter approval under the taxpayers bill of rights.
