Gusty winds and dry conditions hinder the battle against a brush fire in Grand Junction along the Gunnison River. The fire was reported shortly after 2:00 pm Sunday on the banks of the Gunnison River near Rosevale Road. With 12 firefighters and five vehicles responding, Grand Junction Fire Department spokesperson Mike Page says the blaze was started by a nearby campfire that wasn't completely extinguished. Dry timber along the river banks quickly caught fire and increasing winds made the flames jump approximately 60 feet from one bank to the other. The blaze was under control fairly quickly. Fire units are still on scene mopping up the hot spots. The estimated damages of the fire are less than 500 dollars.
