Good Samaritan Health Care Act Becomes Law

Medical professionals who want to volunteer in the community...
can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Governor owens signed a bill sponsored by State Represenative Josh Penry from Grand Junction, that protects volunteers in medical professions from being sued when they are just trying to help. The idea for the bill was brought to the attention of Representative Penry by Canyon View Church. There were doctors and nurses who had wanted to volunteer in the community but had the constant worry of litigation. Now that the "Good Samaritans in Health Care Act" has become law, that fear has been lifted.

Prior to the new law, only physicians were protected when volunteering. Now, nurses, dentists, therapists, and many other medical professionals will be included in the protection.
