Mesa State College's student-produced newspaper receives high accolades from the Society of Professional Journalists. The Criterion won second place in the Best All–Around Non–Daily Student Newspaper category for region nine. The Criterion's editorial board won first place in editorial writing. Its editorial writing entries will now go on to compete in the National Mark of Excellence Competition. Editor Erik Lincoln took second place in the In–Depth Reporting category.
The Mesa State Junior says it's an honor to be recognized. Lincoln has been with the Criterion for three years but will be leaving at the end of this semester to pursue an internship with USAToday.com.
