This is the fifth time that Montrose voters have been asked to vote on a bill that would raise the Mill Levy Tax in order to pay for a new fire station. There is currently only one station, and with the growth Montrose has experienced, fire officials are concerned that response times for emergency personnel are not what they should be.
There are only 6 firefighters on at any given time, and 19% of the calls come in when firefighters are already on another call. Montrose Fire Chief Bob Pister says that it is necessary for Montrose to have another fire station to ensure that citizens get the emergency services they need.
Many agree that a new fire station is needed, but some are against raising the Mill Levy Tax to do so.
