Some Grand Valley tavern owners and other businesses affected by the state smoking ban signed by the governor in March may be joining a campaign to challenge the law in court.
The Denver–based coalition for equal rights has raised $20,000 from businesses state–wide, including at least 40 on the Western Slope.
That's enough to hire a lawyer and seek an injunction against the ban.
House Bill 1175 bans smoking in bars, restaurants and most public places, but excludes licensed casinos.
Some bar owners saying the legislature bowed to powerful casino lobbyists is getting that exemption.
