A small grass fire in Grand Junction Monday evening spreads quickly causing $8,000 worth of damage to the contents of a nearby warehouse. The fire happened just after eight o'clock at 630 Maldonado Street. When firefighters with the Grand Junction Fire Department arrived on scene they found a small grass fire burning near Grand Junction Winair, which is a wholesale heating and air conditioning supply warehouse. The fire spread to an outside area of the warehouse catching 18 swamp coolers on fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze by using bolt cutters to get in. Captain Gus Hendricks says with warmer weather usually brings more grass fires. No structures were damaged in this fire and the cause is still under investigation.
