Woman Critically Injured In Pedestrian Accident

A Grand Junction woman was critically injured today when she was hit by a motorhome as she crossed the street.

According to an eyewitness an older–model RV was northbound on South 5th Street when the driver from Norwood, Colorado ran a red light. 53-year-old Janet McCurdy suffered serious injuries to her head as well as other injuries and underwent emergency surgery at St. Mary's Hospital.

An eyewitness to the accident says McCurdy is a transient and is commonly seen in the area. He says she suffered severe head trauma and was initially unconscious but was talking as she was taken to the hospital.

The driver of the motorhome is 76–year–old Arthur Allen Rice. He was not injured in the accident. Traffic in the area of 5th Street and Pitkin Avenue was slowed for about three hours so traffic investigators could reconstruct the scene.
