Colorado Congressman Introduces Legislation To Protect Vets

In light of the recent theft of more than 26 million veterans personal data earlier this month, Congressman John Salazar has introduced legislation to ensure veteran's identities are protected. The Veterans Identity Protection Act calls on the VA to provide one year of free credit monitoring for affected individuals; provide one free credit report each year for two years after the end of credit monitoring in addition to the freed credit report available under the fair credit reporting act;
and authorize 1.5 Billion in emergency funds for the first year of implementation. Congressman Salazar is the only veteran from the Colorado delegation to participate in the hearing with Veteran’s Affairs secretary Jim Nicholson yesterday.
