Its National Neighbor Works Week, and some Mesa County residents are helping out their fellow neighbors by building houses for lower income families.
Colony Meadows subdivision in Clifton will house 39 brand new affordable homes. To qualify for one of the homes, the home-owner's income needs to be 80 percent below the Mesa County Median income.
In addition, the future homeowners have to put some of their own elbow grease into the construction of the house. They are required to put in 30 hours a week of labor into building the home, and the event gives future homeowners a chance to meet their neighbors.
USDA Rural Development is providing the construction and long term financing for the homeowners, the subdivision should be completed in about six months.
