Mack Fireworks Display Canceled

Party goers hoping to celebrate the fourth of July holiday with the annual third of July fireworks display in Mack will have to come up with another way. The Lower Valley Fire District, the group behind putting on the fireworks display each year, decided the event has grown too big and has become too expensive to take on this year. In years past volunteer firefighters would collect donations during the event to help pay for the next year. However, as more people turned out each year, more was required of the fire district such as providing proper restroom facilities and law enforcement patrols. In the end the event left the district in the hole and they had to take money out of other accounts to cover the cost of the fireworks event. This year the firefighters plan to use the $11,000 or so collected from last year's display to pay for some much needed equipment and fire prevention education. One volunteer firefighter says the district would still be willing to pay for the fireworks in the future if another entity would be interested in picking up the tab for some of the other costs associated with putting on such a large event.
