Thanks to witnesses and a flat tire, Grand Junction police have a suspect in custody following a convenience store robbery. The Diamond Shamrock gas station located at 29 1/2 and Patterson Roads was robbed between 9:30 and 10 o'clock Friday night. The suspect, 45-year-old Grand Valley resident Michael Allen reportedly told the clerk at the Diamond Shamrock he had a piece, indicating a gun. He then allegedly made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. After leaving the scene in a yellow Subaru station wagon police received reports of a reckless driver in the area of 28 Road and Orchard Avenue. Allen apparently got into a minor accident with his vehicle and was changing his tire when police made the arrest. Video tape surveillance and witnesses of the incident at the store positively identified Allen as the robber. Police are also looking for a person of interest in this case who was reported to be riding with Allen after the robbery. He's described as a white male in his late 40's with gray hair. Allen is being held in the Mesa County jail and faces a charge of aggravated robbery.
