Farmers Canyon Fire Burns More Than 60 Acres

A wildfire broke out near mile marker 142 off of Highway 141. At 3 PM Sunday afternoon it was estimated that 60 acres had burned.
Homes were evacuated between mile marker 140 and 148 and Highway 141 was closed for several hours because of fear of the fire spreading.
Three fire engines, a hot shot crew, two heavy air tankers and a helicopter aided in the fire fighting efforts. An investigation continues into what caused the fire but authorities on scene did say that the fire started on private land and quickly moved to BLM lands. The Gateway/Unaweep Fire Department, the Lands End Fire Department, the BLM and Mesa County Sheriff's Deputies all helped in the fire fighting efforts.
