One witness says a local man is a hero today because his actions may have saved the life of a driver who was involved in an accident on Interstate 70.
21–year–old Elizabeth Gilbert was trapped in her car after it rolled once and ended up in the median near the Cameo exit. Gilbert's two siblings climbed from the car as it came to rest, and though Gilbert wasn't critically injured a fire was beginning to flare under the car. That's when Kelley Bonner came to the rescue. His quick work with a fire extinguisher put the fire out before it could spread to the passenger area or spread to cause a wildfire.
All three family members sustained various non–life–threatening injuries in the accident, which slowed traffic for an hour or more. Colorado State Patrol troopers are still investigating the cause, but say speed may be a factor.
