Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre Plateaus Under Fire Ban

People wanting to roast hot dogs over an open fire on the Grand Mesa are just plain out of luck for the Fourth of July holiday this year.

Fire restrictions went into effect this morning on the Grand Mesa and Uncompahgre National Forests, meaning fires can be enjoyed only in developed campgrounds.

The problem on the Grand Mesa is that many campgrounds remain closed because of wind-felled trees. That means more campers will be heading into the backcountry to camp, and with bone–dry conditions people need to be extra cautious with fires and cigarettes.

The fire ban also includes all public lands overseen by the Bureau of Land Management. And remember, fireworks are also not allowed on any public lands at any time.
