It hasn't opened yet, however, a new park dedicated to soccer in Grand Junction has teams and organizations already lining up to use the fields.
Mesa County and Grand Junction officials met with teams and organizations Wednesday night to not only book time on the fields at Long Family Memorial Park, but to voice concerns as well. Groups from youth and high school soccer teams, even the Central High marching band are all looking forward to using the facility and while accommodations shouldn't be a problem, overuse of the field may be.
The park will be run jointly by county and city parks and recreation employees and the ribbon cutting is scheduled for mid to late August.
