Outgoing State Senator Ron Teck received special recognition from the Sons of the American Revolution Saturday.

During the group's annual picnic at Eagle Rim Park on Orchard Mesa the term limited senator was honored with a distinguished service award for his outstanding public service.

They also invited state senate hopefuls Josh Penry and Matt Smith to speak at their picnic. Though they are not a political organization, the group says its important to promote America's solid foundation and democratic principals.

The Grand Mesa Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution boasts 42 members from all across the Western Slope. And to be a member, you must have a direct blood relative who contributed to the cause of American independence.
