Energy Companies Keeping Up With Demand For Electricity

Local energy providers are trying to prevent the problems people have seen recently in Denver as high demand for electricity has caused some transformers to blow out.

So far keeping people cool hasn't been a problem for providers in the Grand Valley. Bill Byers of Grand Valley Power says even though there have been no demand–related outages the need for electricity is on the rise, and a new substation is being built to handle extra demand. Byers says current substations handling the West Valley are near capacity, and a new substation is being built on 21 1/2 Road.

The new substation should add substantially to Grand Valley Power's capacity, and maintain the west valley as Mesa County's fastest–growing region.
