Grand Valley residents gathered in Grand Junction Monday to remember the newborn girl who died last week in Fruitvale, allegedly at the hands of her mother.
They came to remember a life cut short and with the death of a Fruitvale baby girl possibly being the third as the result of child abuse this year alone in Mesa County, child advocates say their job is far from done.
Silent prayer, music, candles and readings filled the Mesa County Commissioners meeting room and even included the words of the young.
Strong Families Safe Kids sponsored the vigil and say while pregnancy may be a frightening time there are options available.
The group also sponsors the blue ribbon drive, which happens each April and serves as another reminder that work is continuously being done to curb the problem of abuse.
