Let's Make A Deal-School Board Buys Land On Sale

Mesa County Valley District 51 school board officials know a fire–sale price, and so last night approved the spending of about 1.6-million dollars to buy land for a new school.

The 35-acre plot is just northwest of Appleton school and is currently an alfalfa field. Plans for the acreage are to build either a middle or high school. School spokesperson Jeff Kirtland says the time was right to buy the land because the District had the money, and land was not going to go down in price.

The money comes from funds earmarked for land purchases in a 109-million-dollar bond issue and mill levy override approved by voters two years ago.
