Group Campaigns For Energy Independence

A bipartisan group kicked off a campaign on Thursday, hoping to influence citizens and politicians thoughts about alternative energy resources.

The Coalition for Colorado's New Energy Future's Plan, features four points that encourage locally produced renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, reducing dependence on foreign oil, and investing more money in research and development.

Organizers say their plan can also create new jobs in ethanol and biodeisel plant construction, solar panel manufacturing and installation and other clean, energy business-related jobs.

The group was also behind 2004's voter-passed Amendment 37, which requires the state's energy providers to receive 10 percent of their energy from renewable resources.
