Republican Steve King was a surprise no–show at today's debate with Democrat Richard Alward, and members of the Redlands Rotary Club don't understand why he didn't come.
The service club has been holding debates between candidates for all races for the last 15 years, and this is the first no–show ever. Alward and King are vying for the House District 54 seat.
With King absent Alward took center stage, and at times took the heat on topics like immigration. However, Alward says he was glad to be at the debate and be able to have an in-depth discussion with club members.
We tried to contact King to find out why he didn't show up, but he didn't return our call. Earlier this week the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel newspaper endorsed Alward for the House District 54 seat.
