In an effort to make sure the voices of rural Colorado are heard, a non – profit group announces an aggressive five year program to advance and create economic sustainability.

Monday, the Colorado Rural Development Council met with local officials and representatives from rural areas in the county to create an economic strategy. Rural Colorado accounts for only 9 percent of the state, and that's why the council says its important to encourage community and economic development in those areas. Although Denver and the Front Range are typically considered the economic engine of the state, rural Colorado plays an important role in the states economy.

The council is holding additional focus groups as part of their strategy in other parts of the state to discuss key issues and concerns.
