A hit and run accident leads to one man being arrested while the other is sent to the hospital with serious injuries. The accident happened a little before noon Tuesday at the intersection of 30 and F Roads.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department, suspected drunk driver 39–year–old Daniel Weller, turned North onto 30 Road from F Road into approaching traffic causing 31–year–old Damian Hughes to broadside him. Uninjured, Weller then fled the scene. Hughes however was taken to St. Mary's Hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities received several calls from witnesses who led them to a nearby home on Starlight Drive. Officers contacted Weller by calling the home's phone. When he was hesitant to come out authorities surrounded the house. Weller gave himself up after about 20 minutes of negotiating and no one was injured during the incident.
Weller was arrested and released on a summons. He faces charges of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and turning left into approaching traffic.
