Grand Junction Police surround the home of an Orchard Mesa Neighborhood this afternoon after responding to a report of shots fired. Neighbors near 316 1/2 Parkwood Drive were evacuated just before 2 p.m. Two people were taken into custody from the home, however a third remains inside while police negotiators continue to secure the scene. Police are working to determine exactly what happened in the house, as few details are available right now.
Spokesperson Linda Bowman says parents were not allowed to pick up the children at Orchard Mesa Middle School and a nearby Head start school during the initial response, however, by 2:40 they determined the scene was far enough away and safe for students to leave the building.
