The Western Regional Special Olympics came into Grand Junction and sportsmanship was the name of the game.

To start off the games, the athletes recited the oath, please let me win, but if i do not win please give make me brave to compete. Then it was off to the lanes for some tough, yet fun competition.

Each athlete set their own personal goal for the competition. But all of the athletes have their eye on the prize and no one will left empty handed, buy they all do agree that the true reward comes from within.

Instead of trying to beat one another, these athletes say that encouraging and praising their opponents is a much better way to go.

Smiles fill the room from those who won ribbons to those whose prize came from within, as the athletes receive a sense of pride and accomplishment. The coaches say that they too, leave the games feeling like winners.

The winners will go on to the Colorado State Special Olympic games in Denver.
