St. Mary's Expansion Approved

St. Mary's hospital will soon under go a massive transformation, thanks to a unanimous decision by Grand Junction City Council Members.

The Century Project will get underway next year, with features including an expanded emergency center and the crown jewel, a 12–story patient tower which will increase accommodations at the hospital by nearly 100 beds.

The construction, to be completed by 2011, will create 300 jobs and provide Western Colorado patients with more than 75 additional physicians.

With Wednesday's decision, the hospital can now put a plan into place that has been in works for some time.

Because it's a hospital, St. Mary's does not need to obtain a conditional use permit, but will have to show the city a preliminary plan before construction starts.
